Matthew Wingard

Architectural Designer

Matthew Wingard has always been drawn to the coast. Growing up in Charlotte, NC, he spent plenty of time visiting Charleston as a kid, so when the opportunity came to put down roots here, it felt like a natural fit. After years in Atlanta, he was ready to trade the city for salt air and the Carolinas.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University and spent three years at an Atlanta architecture firm after graduation, where he worked on multifamily and commercial projects, coordinating consultant teams, developing Revit models, and producing construction documents. One of his most significant professional accomplishments from that time was leading consultant coordination and construction document production for a high-rise student housing development from design through documentation. After relocating to Charleston, he took a detour into entrepreneurship, taking on operations, business management, and digital marketing work before returning to his architectural roots.

Now an Architectural Designer at Coastal Creek Design, Matthew focuses on producing as-built drawings for residential additions and renovations. He’s only two months in, but his background gives him a strong technical foundation to build on. His approach to design is decidedly practical: he thinks about construction processes, budget-driven decisions, and real-world constraints alongside the design itself, which makes him a natural fit for a firm that values both the art and the engineering behind a project.

Matthew is a collaborative thinker who likes to talk through challenges with the team before landing on solutions. He values that Coastal Creek Design offers a good mix of site visits and in-office work, and the coastal waterfront homes of the Lowcountry have already started shaping how he sees residential design.

When he’s not at the drawing board, Matthew is watching football, exploring Charleston’s restaurant scene, or taking road trips to other coastal towns along the Carolina coast.
